August Rush Dualing Guitars-an example of one of many awesome scenes from the movie!

I have come to the conclusion that I like most movies that have anything to do with music and dancing. My current favorite movie August Rush  is one such movie. Evan Taylor later known as August Rush believes he hears music in all that is around him and he believes that if he can put it to music his parents will find him. The movie begins with him in a home for boys and then he runs away and finds Wizard who turns out to be not a nice guy; however, he does, in a twist of fate, show him the way. it was just a feel good movie with beautiful music. To see Robin Williams play a nasty character was new for me. He did an excellent job! 5++ stars for August Rush!

Don’t Worry be Happy

Last week I went to see the movie Wall-E. What a cute feel good movie. Even when it was “serious” I found myself laughing. Wall-E was a robot with feelings. He was all alone except for his cockroach(?) friend until one day Eve comes into his life. His life will never be the same. Together they help the human race find a new way of life.

The above link is to a song from the movie that sent me back in time.

The Gardian

This is one of the few movies that actual enjoyed watching with Ashton Kutcher.I don’t know what it is about dumb roles or stuc-on-myself roles.I know there are actually people out there like that; however, I just don’t think that they are funny and that is what they are casted for(just my opinion. You can agree or disagree and that is perfectly okay.I still love ya.). I guess I am starch shirt kind of gal when it comes to comedy and serious movies. This movie was about two individuals who went through horiffic events and come together and a lasting bond is created. Ben Randall(Kevin Costner) is an older man who is lengend in the coast gaurd and end up teaching at the A School- a special missions training school. This is where he mets Jake Fischer(Ashton Kutcher). Ben unlocks an unfortunate secret about Jake and helps him to realize his potential and they help each other heal. I give this movie 5 stars for the casting, the tribute to the Coast Guard and the storyline. A very well rounded movie!
I also like the score.

Kung Fu Panda

This movie is just awesome! I thought that it was sooo awesome that I saw it twice. I just love movies that have a positive message and te message that this movie send out is that you are special ,you are important and you need to believe in yourself. The tag line that caught my attention was,”There are no accidents.”.Some of us cannot see our worth until someone shows that they have faith in who we are and what we are capable of.The thing that I thought was most interesting was that Dustin Hoffman played the mentor in this movie like he played Mahony’s mentor in Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium. I definately would reccomend that you go and see this movie if you haven’t already. 5+ stars for Kung Fu Panda!

Wouldn’t it be nice…

Music and Lyrics was a good movie. I enjoyed it. The way that Hugh Grant’s character falls for Drew Berrymore’s character is how it should be, in my opinion. He lifts her up and she lifts him up and encourages him in return. It was just a feel good movie. It was by the same director that did Two Weeks Notice( great movie) and it had the same feel. He screws up and realizes he does love her, can’t live without her and writes a song and does the right thing ( In Two Weeks Notice it was a speech and saving the community center.).As a result of watching this movie I have a new favorite song:
Don’t Write Me Off performed by Hugh Grant
I just love that. It has been my dream to have someone write a song or sing a a song just for me to me expressing their undying devotion. It would make me melt in my shoes! Five stars for the music and lyrics!

Fool’s Gold is just awesome! Of coarse, it helps to have Matthew McConaughey running around without a shirt and wet hair, ooh la la!! Anyway, it had the same feel as Sahara, but not as serious save-the-world from certain doom type of adventure. Ira said it was definately a chick flick, but still an awesome movie. He said it was better than Music and Lyrics(We watched it first.I got a two fer one deal at Wally’s World. See my next post.).It was one of those I bought it before I watched it and it worked out.I give it 5 stars!

Magic Dance by David BowieMy current favorite song is from the movie Labrinyth. Magic Dance by David Bowie.

Remember this movie anyone? Its from 1986. Its one of my favorites. I just love Jim Henson.

Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium

Friday, April 11th, 2008

This is by far the best children’s movie I have seen in awhile. Like I said in a previous post I bought it as a birthday gift to myself. What I didn’t say was that I watched it 3 times in one weekend. Twice by myself, once with my Brothers Shane and Ira.

Back to the movie. It is about a magical toystore owned by Edward Magorium and managed by Molly Mahony. Its premise is believe in yourself and you can accomplish anything. My favorite line that I think sums up this theme very well is: Your life is an ocassion. Rise to it. Mr. Magorium tells  this to Mahony(she is never really refered to as Molly) towards the end of the movie. There are other lessons that are learned by other characters but Molly’s hit me the most.

If you liked Charlie and the Chocolate Factory( earlier version not tthe one with Johnny Depp) then you will enjoy it.If not, then I think you will want to see it because I said it was worth a look see. I give the movie five stars cuz I think that there aren’t many family movies out there anymore with messages like this one!Just my opinion. take it or leave it!

Enchanted

Cute movie!! I had the opportunity to see it in the theatre when it was out and decided not to because it looked like the type of movie that showed a few funny clips in the preview and then wasn’t that funny or worth seven+ dollars to pay to see. Its all good though because Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium( I will review that later.)was worth the 7+ dollars to see in the theatre.

Anyways, I laughed hard during more than just the scenes I had seen in the previews. Now I have seen the movie that inspired my niece to say she made her dress,  she wore to her sister’s baby blessing, from curtains. True love really is built over time not just one chance meeting. True love’s first kiss helps too.

The only things I could have done without were: the rats and cockroaches helping the princess clean(Sorry I forgot her name. I was up until 1 am talking to my cousin, Amy. My brain is still not fully awake!).

The things I loved about the movie: her optimism(I need a little of that), the chipmunk and the death of the evil witch/mother of the prince.I give it 4 stars.(It would have gotten five if it wasn’t for the rats.)

A song from the movie:

Ever Ever After by Carrie Underwood
